Professor Yury G. Matvienko is a scientist in the field of nonlinear fracture mechanics, strength, lifetime, survivability, reliability and safety of engineering structures under extreme physical and mechanical influences and corrosive environments. He has authored more than 270 publications, including 15 monographs and 12 patents. He graduated from the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute in 1980. He was awarded the degree of candidate of technical sciences (PhD) in 1980, the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences (Sc.D.) in 1993. Since 1991 he works at Mechanical Engineering Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. At present time, Professor Matvienko is the Head of the Department of Strength, Survivability and Safety. As a professor and scientific expert, he was invited to Universities and Research Institutes of England, France, Japan, Italy, South Korea, Slovenia and Thailand.
